Aboriginal Films and Their Portrayals in Films
How are Aboriginals portrayed in film?Aboriginal people are not seen much in popular films. When they are seen, they are portrayed as primitive, violent and devious, or passive and submissive. Many people of brown skin were casted in the movie Shadow of the Wolf to play Inuit people. After 1966, Native film industry have become more popular. It includes diverse content which is continuously growing.

Why aren’t Aboriginals in Film successful, or Aboriginal made films successful?
Many people in Western society haven’t even met an Aboriginal person, but continue to put them in their films. Aboriginal films are unsuccessful because American people cannot relate to Native stories, traditions and backgrounds.

Why might we react to this injustice?
The lack of understanding people have for their culture leads to lack of respect therefore Aboriginals are put in for comedic purposes only. We are called to learn and understand Aboriginal culture so when we see them in film we can learn to relate to their lives.
